Racking and storage systems in Ontario

The system of racking and storage in Ontario is designed for a well-organized and systematic handling of goods. It is implemented as part of a safety procedural compliance with the Ministry of Labour's rules and regulations. An industrial and commercial company or corporation invests largely on racking and storage systems in Ontario to guarantee the safety of its workers and the proper handling of products.

Ministry of Labour rules and regulation

The Ministry of Labour focused on the racking and storage system within Ontario last November of 2011. Facilities and operational procedure were diligently inspected for the safety of workers. This move is in line with the ministry's strategy Safe At Work Ontario, which was launched in June of 2008.

Precautionary measures and safe operational procedure guidelines were furnished to industrial and commercial business establishments for strict compliance in the workspace of its employees. The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and the Regulations for Industry Establishments designed a safety manual for racking and storage system.

The OHSA, in line with the racking and storage system, promoted the self awareness of workers in the system. OHSA promulgated clauses for employers to meet regarding worker trainings and seminars for strict compliance to facilitate operation. The employer should provide the worker with training regarding manufacturers' loading recommendations aligned with the governments' loading capacity, procedures to report racking damage such as worn out pallet, safe operation and function of mobile equipment used in racking such as forklift and a mandatory regular inspection of pallets and pallet racks on a daily basis.

What is the best racking and storage system?

Answering the call of the OHSA in its implementation of its rules and regulations regarding the safety of workers in and around the working area of the racks, the best racking and storage system should be ergonomic friendly.

Ergonomics implemented in the racking and storage business guarantees a safe and sound operation in the working area. Workers can do their job with ease while mobile lifting equipment will have enough space to manouver without the hazard of tipping other racks. Mezzanines are provided and designed for larger weight capacity. Ergonomics takes into account the well-being of workers thus integrating the design workspace of any business or office. Ergonomics is widely used in racking and storage systems in Ontario.
